Imagine Making Your Own Delicious Chocolate Bon Bons

Delicious and super easy to make, these homemade frozen chocolate ice cream bon bons make the perfect bite sized treat. Bon bons are refreshing on a hot summer day but also taste great with a cup of hot chocolate on a cool winter night. Whip up a batch for a unique baby or bridal shower and you’ll be the toast of the party!

You can freeze a batch of these bonbons, which makes it convenient to pop one in your mouth anytime you’re craving chocolate or a sweet treat. Be careful ~ before you know it, you’ll be stealing away with the whole batch!


1 pint of your favorite ice cream
7 ounces bittersweet chocolate
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Dash of salt

You Will Also Need These Items:

There’s no baking with this recipe. You’ll need the baking sheets for setting your ice cream balls on waxed paper to freeze. And the toothpicks are for handling the ice cream balls.

2 baking sheets
Waxed paper to cover the baking sheets
24 toothpicks

Bon Bons Are Pretty Too

1.Line 2 baking sheets with waxed paper and place them in the freezer until cold.
2.Use a small ice cream scoop or a large melon baller to scoop out small 24 1-inch balls of your favorite ice cream.
3.Place the ice cream balls on the baking sheets and then insert a toothpick into the center of each ice cream ball.
4.Freeze the ice cream balls for 3 hours.
5.Place a small heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water.
6.Add the chocolate and cook over low heat, stirring, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
7.Remove the chocolate from the heat and add the butter and salt; stir until smooth.
8.Remover the ice cream balls from the freezer.
9.One at a time, grab hold of the toothpick and hold it over the bowl of melted chocolate. Using a spoon or ladle, ladle the melted chocolate over the ice cream ball. Coat the ball completely. Let the  excess chocolate run back into the bowl.
11.After coating with chocolate, place the bonbon back on the baking sheet.
12.Freeze the bonbons for 4-5 hours.
13.Remove the toothpicks from the bonbons before serving.
14.Transfer leftover bonbons to a freezer-safe container. They can be stored for up to a week.
