Catering for a Social Event

If you are hosting a social event and you are thinking of using a caterer, you need to make sure you choose wisely. You want to impress your attendees, and you want to make sure that everyone has a good time. Catering may go a long way toward determining whether or not your event is a success.

There are many companies that provide catering, of course, but they may not be as proficient at providing services for social events as they may be for events such as weddings, corporate meetings, and others. Many times, these companies will not appropriately consider the “social” aspect of a social event. They simply don’t have experience in making sure that people attending a social event are brought together to interact.

A social event can be a wide-ranging term. It can apply to dinner dances, anniversary or retirement parties, Bar Mitzvahs, fundraisers, birthday parties, and much more. When planning this type of event, you want to make sure people mingle so that they can get to know each other better. That’s what makes an event “social” in the first place. Here are two areas that you want to make sure your catering provider addresses so that your event is as successful as possible.

Let Attendees Eat and Drink at their Own Pace
You want to make sure that no one who attends your event feels pressured into following any sort of schedule. You want them to be able to mingle while deciding what they want to drink or eat. Provide them with a wide variety of menu choices; if someone is a vegetarian or enjoys a particular kind of cheese, which could even be a source of conversation. People who attend these sorts of gatherings typically prefer to be able to walk around rather than having to sit at a table and wait for a server to bring them their meal. This isn’t a “sit-down” type of event. It’s a party.

Provide Scattered Food Stations
Instead of having everyone go through the same buffet line, the company the provides your catering should set up several food stations that are spaced well apart from each other and provide different dining options. That way, people will be able to move around to see what these stations have to offer. They will tend not to remain stuck in one area for the entire night, so there will be more of a chance that they will meet someone new.

You may be too busy planning the other aspects of your event to have put much thought into how you will make sure your party’s attendees have every opportunity to meet new people and enjoy new experiences. Choosing the right company to provide your catering will take that part of the planning process off of your plate.
